چکیده
Electrochemical treatment is a popular and efficient method for improving the photoelectrochemical performance of water-splitting photoelectrodes. In our previous study, electrochemical activation Mo-doped BiVO4 electrodes was ascribed to removal MoOx segregations, which are considered be surface recombination centers photoinduced electrons holes. However, this proposed mechanism cannot explain why activated gradually lose their activity when exposed air. based on various characterizations, it suggested that not only removes partial segregations but also initiates formation HyMoOx defects, provide charge transfer channels photogenerated The separation electrode significantly enhanced by these channels. This study offers new insight into photoanodes, concept channels, long overlooked factor, will valuable development other (photo)electrocatalytic systems.

Single-crystalline, wormlike hematite photoanodes for efficient solar water splitting
A hematite photoanode showing a stable, record-breaking performance of 4.32 mA/cm² photoelectrochemical water oxidation current at 1.23 V vs. RHE under simulated 1-sun (100 mW/cm²) irradiation is reported. This photocurrent corresponds to ca. 34% of the maximum theoretical limit expected for hematite with a band gap of 2.1 V. The photoanode produced stoichiometric hydrogen and oxygen gases in a...
متن کاملImproving BiVO4 photoanodes for solar water splitting through surface passivation.
BiVO4 has shown great potential as a semiconductor photoanode for solar water splitting. Significant improvements made during recent years allowed researchers to obtain a photocurrent density of up to 4.0 mA cm(-2) (AM1.5 sunlight illumination, 1.23 VRHE bias). For further improvements of the BiVO4 photoelectrodes, a deep understanding of the processes occurring at the BiVO4-H2O interface is cr...
متن کاملSimultaneous enhancements in photon absorption and charge transport of bismuth vanadate photoanodes for solar water splitting
n-Type bismuth vanadate has been identified as one of the most promising photoanodes for use in a water-splitting photoelectrochemical cell. The major limitation of BiVO4 is its relatively wide bandgap (∼2.5 eV), which fundamentally limits its solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. Here we show that annealing nanoporous bismuth vanadate electrodes at 350 °C under nitrogen flow can result in n...
متن کاملReactive Sputtering of Bismuth Vanadate Photoanodes for Solar Water Splitting
Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) has attracted increasing attention as a photoanode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. It has a band gap in the visible light range (2.4−2.5 eV) and a valence band position suitable for driving water oxidation under illumination. While a number of methods have been used to make BiVO4 photoanodes, scalable thin film deposition has remained relatively underexp...
متن کاملPhotocharged BiVO4 photoanodes for improved solar water splitting
Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) is a promising semiconductor material for the production of solar fuels via photoelectrochemical water splitting, however, it suffers from substantial recombination losses that limit its performance to well below its theoretical maximum. Here we demonstrate for the first time that the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of BiVO4 photoanodes can be dramatically improv...
